Visit These Fantastic Golf Courses on Your Scotland Golf Holiday
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010No golf holiday in Scotland is worth the trouble if you don’t visit the golf courses, and take some time to tee. Not only is Scotland the acknowledged place of origin of golf, it’s also home to the finest courses. Not sure which courses to visit? Not a problem. Here are six of Scotland’s best.
Scotland Golf Holiday -St Andrews: One of the oldest golf courses developed, St Andrews should be on top of your courses-to-visit list on your Scotland golf holiday. Golf was already being played here, historians claim, when Columbus found the American continent. The site of various Open Championships, St Andrews is steeped in both old and recent history.
Carnoustie: This is the second oldest course found in Scotland, dating back to the 1500s. A golfer needs superb accuracy in Carnoustie from every tee, making the course demanding. Confounding that are the rain and winds.
Gleneagles: This Jack Nicklaus-designed course is home to both the PGA Centenary golf course and to the Ryder Cup Championships (2014). At 7081 yards, Gleneagles can be tough for some golfers as it demands accuracy. In this manner, it skews away from the many ponds, streams, pot bunkers, and sand traps.
Scotland Golf Holiday -Muirfield: will challenge any golfer in almost every aspect. Nicklaus was also among the winners here. The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfer (1744), the oldest golf club on record, is based in Muirfield. It is also frequently considered the best course in both Scotland and the whole British Isles. It blends both a rich history and an incredible challenging golf course.
Golf legends from Bobby Locke to Justin Leonard have made their names in the Royal Troon Golf Club. Wind is the penultimate element here, for even though the front side offers chances to score, the wind can ruin anyone’s plans and calculations. Try to make hay, as some advice, on the front side.
Scotland Golf Holiday -Turnberry: Many consider this to have the most scenic views among the golf vacation spots in Scotland. The match between Nicklaus and Watson in 1977 was held here. If you love scenery and appreciate golf history, Turnberry is for you.
There are doubtless many other less popular courses, but these should be on your list of golf courses to see on your Scotland golf holiday.
