Your First Visit To The Golf Store

Now that you have discovered how much you enjoy the game, you will probably want to take a visit to the local golf store. Looking at the wide selection of clubs, it can be difficult to determine what you actually need. Let’s look at the essential equipment.
When it comes to clubs, you might be tempted to purchase a full set. This may not be your best option right away. Start with a couple of basic clubs and a good putter, and leave the rest for later.
As a novice, you probably don’t have any need for the nuance and fine differentiation that a full set provides. You will probably be better served by a pair of good quality woods and a nice putter than you would be by an affordable full set. If you really need more variety, you can borrow or rent the other clubs.
Once you have developed a bit more skill and come to an understanding of how your shots tend to go, you can look at a good minimal set of clubs. Most professionals recommend a three wood to tee off with and perhaps a seven or nine wood for fairway shots. Most novices find these particular clubs easier to control than irons.
A couple of wedges will also be very useful for the inexperienced player. An approach wedge is usually very handy when you want to make high arc, short distance hops. If you find yourself in traps a lot, a sand wedge will offer the best chance to get your ball out of the sand and back on the green.
Try not to be too dazzled by the phenomenal selection in your local golf store. As you progress and develop new skills, you will be adding new clubs to your beginner’s set. Soon you will have a full bag of your own.
